How to Clean Your Microwave Using Just a Lemon

Why Use a Lemon to Clean Your Microwave?

Using a lemon is an easy, natural way to break down grease and stains in your microwave. The citric acid is effective at loosening food splatters, and it leaves a fresh scent behind. It’s safe, affordable, and you probably have one on hand!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 lemon
  • A microwave-safe bowl or cup
  • Water
  • A cloth or sponge

Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Your Microwave with a Lemon

Step 1 – Prepare the Lemon

Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze the juice into a microwave-safe bowl with about half a cup of water. Drop the lemon halves in as well.

Step 2 – Microwave the Lemon Mixture

Place the bowl in the microwave and heat it on high for 3-5 minutes until the water boils and creates steam.

Step 3 – Let the Steam Work

Leave the door closed for a few minutes after it’s done to let the steam loosen grime.

Step 4 – Wipe It Down

Carefully remove the bowl (it’ll be hot). Use a cloth or sponge to wipe the inside of the microwave. The grime should come off easily.

Step 5 – Final Touches

Wipe the inside of the door and any tough spots. Use the lemon water for extra scrubbing if needed.

Enjoy Your Fresh Microwave

In just a few minutes, your microwave is clean, odor-free, and chemical-free!
